Description
Multiple stored XSS were found on different nodes with unsanitized parameters in OpenMNS Horizon 33.0.8 and versions earlier than 33.1.6 on multiple platforms that allow an attacker to store on database and then inject HTML and/or Javascript on the page. The solution is to upgrade to Horizon 33.1.6, 33.1.7 or Meridian 2024.2.6, 2024.2.7 or newer. Meridian and Horizon installation instructions state that they are intended for installation within an organization's private networks and should not be directly accessible from the Internet. OpenNMS thanksΒ FΓ‘bio TomΓ© for reporting this issue.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

This vulnerability involves multiple stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issues in OpenNMS Horizon versions 33.0.8 and earlier than 33.1.6. Unsanitized parameters allow attackers to store malicious HTML or JavaScript code in the database, which can then be injected and executed on the web pages viewed by users. This enables attackers to perform actions such as stealing session information or manipulating the user interface. The issue was fixed by correcting user input handling in the codebase, specifically in UI components like SurveillanceViewTable.java. [1]

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

This vulnerability can allow an attacker to execute malicious scripts in the context of the affected application, potentially leading to unauthorized actions such as session hijacking, data theft, or manipulation of the user interface. Since the malicious code is stored and then served to users, it can affect any user who accesses the compromised pages, increasing the risk of widespread impact within the organization’s private network. [1]

What immediate steps should I take to mitigate this vulnerability?

To mitigate this vulnerability, you should upgrade OpenNMS Horizon to version 33.1.6, 33.1.7 or newer, or Meridian to version 2024.2.6, 2024.2.7 or newer. Additionally, ensure that the OpenNMS installation is only accessible within your organization's private network and not directly exposed to the Internet.
