Last updated on: 2025-07-16

Assigner: Wordfence

Description
The WP Event Manager – Events Calendar, Registrations, Sell Tickets with WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the β€˜tag-name’ parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.1.49 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level access, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This only affects multi-site installations and installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the WP Event Manager plugin for WordPress. It occurs via the 'tag-name' parameter due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. Authenticated attackers with administrator-level access can inject malicious web scripts that execute whenever a user accesses the affected page. It affects multi-site installations and those where unfiltered_html is disabled.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

The vulnerability allows an attacker with administrator access to inject malicious scripts that execute in users' browsers when they visit the injected pages. This can lead to unauthorized actions, data theft, or session hijacking for users accessing those pages, potentially compromising the security and integrity of the affected WordPress site.

What immediate steps should I take to mitigate this vulnerability?

To mitigate this vulnerability, immediately update the WP Event Manager plugin to a version later than 3.1.49 where the issue is fixed. Additionally, ensure that only trusted administrators have access to the affected plugin and consider enabling unfiltered_html if appropriate. For multi-site installations, review and restrict administrator privileges to reduce risk.
