AI Powered Q&A
How can this vulnerability impact me? :
This vulnerability can allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on your client system by sending a specially crafted PWD response from an FTP server. This could lead to unauthorized control over your system, potentially resulting in data theft, system compromise, or further attacks.
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?
This vulnerability is a stack-based buffer overflow in Xftp FTP Client versions up to 3.0 (build 0238). It occurs when the client receives a maliciously crafted PWD response from an FTP server containing an overly long directory string. The client does not properly check the length of this input before copying it into a fixed-size buffer, leading to memory corruption and allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the client system.
