AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?
This vulnerability is an authenticated OS command injection in certain D-Link routers via the tools_vct.htm endpoint. The web interface does not properly sanitize input from the ping_ipaddr parameter, allowing an attacker with default credentials to inject and execute arbitrary shell commands using backtick encapsulation.
How can this vulnerability impact me? :
An attacker who exploits this vulnerability can execute arbitrary commands on the affected router with high privileges. This can lead to unauthorized control over the device, potentially compromising network security, intercepting or altering traffic, or using the device as a foothold for further attacks.
