Description
The GMap Generator plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the β€˜h’ parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

The vulnerability in the GMap Generator WordPress plugin is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue via the 'h' parameter. It occurs because the plugin does not properly sanitize or escape input, allowing authenticated users with Contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into pages. These scripts execute whenever any user views the infected page.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

This vulnerability can allow attackers with Contributor-level access to inject malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of users who visit the affected pages. This can lead to theft of user data, session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions performed on behalf of users without their consent.

What immediate steps should I take to mitigate this vulnerability?

Since the GMap Generator plugin has been closed and is no longer available for download as of August 5, 2025, the immediate mitigation step is to uninstall or deactivate the plugin if it is currently installed. Avoid using versions up to and including 1.1, as they are vulnerable. Monitor for updates or a patched version after the security review before reinstallation. [1]
