Assigner: Wordfence

Description
The iATS Online Forms plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to time-based SQL Injection via the β€˜order' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 1.2 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

The vulnerability in the iATS Online Forms WordPress plugin (up to version 1.2) is a time-based SQL Injection via the 'order' parameter. Due to insufficient escaping and lack of proper preparation of this user-supplied parameter, authenticated users with Contributor-level access or higher can append additional SQL queries to existing ones. This allows them to extract sensitive information from the database.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

This vulnerability can allow authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or above to extract sensitive information from the database by injecting additional SQL queries. This could lead to unauthorized data disclosure and potential compromise of sensitive data stored in the database.

What immediate steps should I take to mitigate this vulnerability?

Immediate mitigation steps include disabling or uninstalling the iATS Online Forms plugin version 1.2 or earlier until a patched version is released, restricting Contributor-level access to trusted users only, and monitoring for any suspicious database activity. Since the plugin was closed and is temporarily unavailable for download pending a security review, avoid using this plugin in the meantime. [1]
