Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a stored authenticated Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in appRain CMF version 4.0.5. It occurs because the application does not properly validate user input in the 'data[Option][message]', 'data[Option][subject]', and 'data[Option][templatetype]' parameters within the /apprain/information/manage/emailtemplate/add endpoint. An attacker with authenticated access can inject malicious scripts that are stored and later executed in the context of other users.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can allow an attacker to execute malicious scripts in the context of authenticated users, potentially leading to session hijacking, unauthorized actions performed on behalf of users, theft of sensitive information, or defacement of the application. Since it is a stored XSS, the malicious payload persists and affects multiple users who access the compromised content.
