Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/amd: Add a length limitation for the ivrs_acpihid command-line parameter The 'acpiid' buffer in the parse_ivrs_acpihid function may overflow, because the string specifier in the format string sscanf() has no width limitation. Found by InfoTeCS on behalf of Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a buffer overflow issue in the Linux kernel's iommu/amd component. Specifically, the 'acpiid' buffer in the parse_ivrs_acpihid function can overflow because the sscanf() function used to parse input does not limit the length of the string it reads, potentially allowing more data than the buffer can hold.

Impact Analysis

The buffer overflow could potentially lead to memory corruption, which might be exploited to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, impacting system stability and security.
