Description

The Paypal Payment Shortcode plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'buttom_image' parameter of the [paypal-shortcode] shortcode in all versions up to, and including, 1.01 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. Mitigation Strategies

Update the Paypal Payment Shortcode plugin for WordPress to a version later than 1.01 where the vulnerability is fixed. Additionally, restrict Contributor-level access and above to trusted users only, as the vulnerability requires authenticated users with such privileges to exploit. Implement input sanitization and output escaping for the 'buttom_image' parameter if custom code is used.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the Paypal Payment Shortcode plugin for WordPress. It occurs via the 'buttom_image' parameter of the [paypal-shortcode] shortcode in all versions up to and including 1.01. Due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, authenticated users with Contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These scripts execute whenever any user accesses the injected page.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability allows attackers with Contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into web pages. This can lead to unauthorized actions such as stealing user credentials, session hijacking, defacement, or spreading malware to users who visit the affected pages. It compromises the integrity and security of the website and its users.
