CVE-2026-1312
Unknown Unknown - Not Provided
BaseFortify

Publication date: 2026-02-03

Last updated on: 2026-02-04

Assigner: Django Software Foundation

Description
An issue was discovered in 6.0 before 6.0.2, 5.2 before 5.2.11, and 4.2 before 4.2.28. `.QuerySet.order_by()` is subject to SQL injection in column aliases containing periods when the same alias is, using a suitably crafted dictionary, with dictionary expansion, used in `FilteredRelation`. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.0.x, 4.1.x, and 3.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Solomon Kebede for reporting this issue.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

This vulnerability exists in certain versions of Django before 6.0.2, 5.2.11, and 4.2.28. It involves the `.QuerySet.order_by()` method being susceptible to SQL injection attacks when column aliases contain periods and are used with dictionary expansion in `FilteredRelation`. This means that specially crafted input can manipulate the SQL query in unintended ways.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

The vulnerability can allow an attacker with some level of privileges to perform SQL injection, potentially leading to unauthorized access or modification of data. The CVSS score indicates a low to medium severity with impacts on confidentiality and integrity but no impact on availability.
