Reflected XSS in Graylog 2.2.3 Alerts Endpoint Enables Script Execution

Publication date: 2026-02-18

Last updated on: 2026-02-18

Assigner: Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute, S.A. (INCIBE)

Description
Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Graylog Web Interface console, version 2.2.3, caused by a lack of proper sanitization and escaping in HTML output. Several endpoints include segments of the URL directly in the response without applying output encoding, allowing an attacker to inject and execute arbitrary JavaScript code when a user visits a specially crafted URL. Exploitation of this vulnerability may allow script execution in the victim's browser and limited manipulation of the affected user's session context, through theΒ  '/ alerts /' endpoint.

Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

This vulnerability is a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue found in the Graylog Web Interface console, version 2.2.3. It occurs because the application does not properly sanitize or escape HTML output. Specifically, some endpoints include parts of the URL directly in the response without encoding them, which allows an attacker to inject and execute arbitrary JavaScript code when a user visits a specially crafted URL.

The vulnerability is exploited through the '/alerts/' endpoint, enabling script execution in the victim's browser and limited manipulation of the affected user's session context.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :
