Out-of-Bounds Write in Modem Enables Remote Privilege Escalation

Publication date: 2026-03-02

Last updated on: 2026-03-02

Assigner: MediaTek, Inc.

Description
In Modem, there is a possible out of bounds write due to a missing bounds check. This could lead to remote escalation of privilege, if a UE has connected to a rogue base station controlled by the attacker, with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is needed for exploitation. Patch ID: MOLY00782946; Issue ID: MSV-4135.

AI Powered Q&A
Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

This vulnerability exists in the modem component where a missing bounds check can cause an out of bounds write.

An attacker controlling a rogue base station can exploit this flaw to remotely escalate privileges on the device.

Exploitation requires the user equipment (UE) to connect to the attacker's rogue base station and some user interaction.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

The vulnerability can lead to remote escalation of privilege, allowing an attacker to gain higher access rights on the affected device.
