Authorization Bypass in OpenClaw Discord DM Reaction Notifications

Publication date: 2026-03-19

Last updated on: 2026-03-25

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description
OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.2.25 fail to enforce dmPolicy and allowFrom authorization checks on Discord direct-message reaction notifications, allowing non-allowlisted users to enqueue reaction-derived system events. Attackers can exploit this inconsistency by reacting to bot-authored DM messages to bypass DM authorization restrictions and trigger downstream automation or tool policies.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in OpenClaw versions prior to 2026.2.25 where the software fails to properly enforce dmPolicy and allowFrom authorization checks on Discord direct-message reaction notifications.

Because of this failure, non-allowlisted users can enqueue reaction-derived system events by reacting to bot-authored direct messages, bypassing the intended DM authorization restrictions.

Attackers can exploit this inconsistency to trigger downstream automation or tool policies that should normally be restricted.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability allows unauthorized users to bypass direct message authorization restrictions by reacting to bot-authored messages.

This can lead to unauthorized triggering of system events and downstream automation or tool policies, potentially causing unintended actions or disruptions.

While the CVSS v3.1 score is 3.7 indicating low to medium severity, the CVSS v4.0 score is higher at 6.3, reflecting a more significant impact due to easier exploitation and potential integrity loss.
