Publication date: 2026-04-07

Last updated on: 2026-04-13

Assigner: National Instruments

Description
There is a memory corruption vulnerability due to an out-of-bounds write when loading a corrupted LVCLASS file in NI LabVIEW.Β  This vulnerability may result in information disclosure or arbitrary code execution. Successful exploitation requires an attacker to get a user to open a specially crafted .lvclass file. This vulnerability affects NI LabVIEW 2026 Q1 (26.1.0) and prior versions.

AI Powered Q&A
How does this vulnerability affect compliance with common standards and regulations (like GDPR, HIPAA)?:

This vulnerability may result in information disclosure or arbitrary code execution, which could potentially impact the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data processed by NI LabVIEW.

Such impacts could affect compliance with common standards and regulations like GDPR or HIPAA, which require protection of sensitive information and system integrity.

However, the provided information does not explicitly describe how this vulnerability directly affects compliance with these standards or regulations.

Can you explain this vulnerability to me?

CVE-2026-32861 is a memory corruption vulnerability in NI LabVIEW caused by an out-of-bounds write during the parsing of LV class (.lvclass) files.

This flaw occurs when a specially crafted corrupted LVCLASS file is loaded, leading to memory corruption.

Successful exploitation requires an attacker to convince a user to open such a malicious file.

The vulnerability can result in information disclosure or arbitrary code execution.

How can this vulnerability impact me? :

This vulnerability can have serious impacts including unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information and the execution of arbitrary code on the affected system.

Because it allows arbitrary code execution, an attacker could potentially take control of the affected system.

The vulnerability affects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Exploitation requires local access and user interaction but no special privileges.

What immediate steps should I take to mitigate this vulnerability?

To mitigate the CVE-2026-32861 vulnerability in NI LabVIEW, it is recommended to upgrade affected LabVIEW versions to the appropriate patched releases.

  • For LabVIEW 2026: Upgrade to 2026 Q1 Patch 1 or later.
  • For LabVIEW 2025: Upgrade to 2025 Q3 Patch 4 or later.
  • For LabVIEW 2024: Upgrade to 2024 Q3 Patch 6 or later.
  • For LabVIEW 2023: Upgrade to 2023 Q3 Patch 9 or later.
  • For LabVIEW 2022 and earlier: These versions are no longer in mainstream support.
