Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability can lead to serious impacts including information disclosure, where sensitive data may be exposed to unauthorized parties.

Additionally, it can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code, potentially taking control of the affected system or causing it to behave unpredictably.

Exploitation requires tricking a user into opening a maliciously crafted VI file, which means social engineering or targeted attacks could be used.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a memory corruption issue caused by an out-of-bounds write in the function ResFileFactory::InitResourceMgr() within NI LabVIEW. It occurs when a specially crafted VI file is opened by a user, which can lead to unintended behavior in the software.

The flaw allows an attacker to potentially disclose sensitive information or execute arbitrary code on the affected system.

It affects NI LabVIEW version 2026 Q1 (26.1.0) and earlier versions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may result in information disclosure or arbitrary code execution if exploited. Such outcomes could potentially impact compliance with standards and regulations like GDPR or HIPAA, which require protection of sensitive information and system integrity.

However, the provided information does not explicitly describe the direct effects on compliance with these standards or regulations.
