Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel component remoteproc for xlnx. It involves improper handling of buffer information and message pointers in the receive callback function.

Specifically, the vulnerability occurs because the code did not check if the message pointer was NULL before accessing it, which could lead to a crash due to NULL pointer dereferencing.

The fix ensures that buffer information is only accessed if the Inter-Processor Interrupt (IPI) is buffered and adds a check to verify that the message is not NULL before processing it.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can cause the Linux kernel to crash due to a NULL pointer dereference when processing certain messages in the remoteproc xlnx component.

Such a crash could lead to denial of service conditions, potentially disrupting system operations or causing instability in systems relying on this kernel component.
