Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a buffer overflow flaw found in the Edimax EW-7478APC device, specifically in the function formUSBAccount within the POST Request Handler component. It occurs due to improper handling of the UserName and Password arguments, allowing an attacker to manipulate these inputs to overflow the buffer.

The attack can be carried out remotely, meaning an attacker does not need physical access to the device to exploit this flaw.

The exploit for this vulnerability has already been published, increasing the risk of it being used maliciously.

Impact Analysis

Exploiting this buffer overflow vulnerability can lead to severe impacts including unauthorized access, system compromise, and potential control over the affected device.

Given the high CVSS scores (up to 9.0 in v2.0 and 8.8 in v3.1), the vulnerability can result in complete confidentiality, integrity, and availability loss of the device.

Since the attack can be performed remotely, it increases the risk of widespread exploitation without requiring physical proximity.
