Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Adobe InCopy versions 21.3, 20.5.3, and earlier. It is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability, which means that the software writes data outside the boundaries of allocated memory. This flaw could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user.

To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker needs to trick a user into opening a malicious file, as user interaction is required.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability can lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. This means an attacker could run malicious code on your system with your user privileges.

The impact includes potential full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data and system, as indicated by the high CVSS score (7.8) with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, avoid opening malicious files in affected versions of Adobe InCopy (versions 21.3, 20.5.3 and earlier). Since exploitation requires user interaction, educating users to not open suspicious or unexpected files can reduce risk.

Additionally, consider updating Adobe InCopy to a version later than 21.3 or 20.5.3 once a patch is available to address the out-of-bounds write vulnerability.
