Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a stack overflow in the AP4_StsdAtom::AP4_StsdAtom component of the axiomatic-systems Bento4 software versions before v1.8.9. It occurs when the software processes a specially crafted MP4 file.

A stack overflow happens when more data is written to a buffer located on the stack than it can hold, which can overwrite adjacent memory and cause unexpected behavior.

In this case, the overflow can be triggered by an attacker using a malicious MP4 file.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can allow an attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) condition.

A Denial of Service means that the affected software or system may crash or become unresponsive when processing the crafted MP4 file, potentially disrupting normal operations.
