Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a stack overflow in the EnsureCapacity component of the AP4_Array<AP4_TrunAtom::Entry> within axiomatic-systems Bento4 versions before 1.8.9. It occurs when processing a crafted MP4 file.

A stack overflow happens when a program writes more data to a buffer located on the stack than what is actually allocated, potentially overwriting adjacent memory.

In this case, the vulnerability allows attackers to exploit the MP4 file processing to trigger this overflow.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can be exploited by attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) condition.

A Denial of Service means that the affected application or system may crash or become unresponsive when processing a maliciously crafted MP4 file.
