CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.
CWE-119 The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it reads from or writes to a memory location outside the buffer's intended boundary. This may result in read or write operations on unexpected memory locations that could be linked to other variables, data structures, or internal program data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper memory handling when processing maliciously crafted web content in Apple products such as Safari, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Tahoe. Exploiting this issue may cause an unexpected process crash.

Impact Analysis

The impact of this vulnerability is that processing specially crafted web content could cause the affected application or process to crash unexpectedly. This may lead to denial of service or disruption of normal operations.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability involves processing maliciously crafted web content that may lead to an unexpected process crash. It does not impact confidentiality or integrity of data, only availability.

Since the vulnerability does not result in data breach or unauthorized data access, it is unlikely to directly affect compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA, which primarily focus on protecting personal data confidentiality and integrity.

However, the potential for denial of service due to process crashes could indirectly affect availability requirements under some regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, update affected Apple products to version 26.5.2 or later. This includes Safari 26.5.2, iOS 26.5.2, iPadOS 26.5.2, and macOS Tahoe 26.5.2.
