CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an integer overflow or wraparound issue in the Windows Internet component (wininet.dll). It allows an authorized attacker to elevate their privileges locally on the affected system.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can allow an authorized attacker to gain higher privileges on the local system than they are normally permitted. This elevation of privilege can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, modification of system settings, or execution of malicious code with elevated rights.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, apply the security updates provided by Microsoft for Windows Internet (wininet.dll) as soon as possible.

Since the vulnerability allows local privilege escalation, ensure that only authorized users have local access to affected systems.
