Assigner: kernel.org

Description
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: apparmor: fix rlimit for posix cpu timers Posix cpu timers requires an additional step beyond setting the rlimit. Refactor the code so its clear when what code is setting the limit and conditionally update the posix cpu timers when appropriate.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the Linux kernel relates to the AppArmor security module and concerns the handling of resource limits (rlimit) for POSIX CPU timers.

Specifically, POSIX CPU timers require an additional step beyond just setting the rlimit to function correctly. The vulnerability was due to the code not clearly managing when and how these limits were set and updated.

The fix involved refactoring the code to clarify which parts set the limits and to conditionally update the POSIX CPU timers as appropriate, ensuring proper enforcement of resource limits.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability relates to the Linux kernel's AppArmor component and involves improper handling of resource limits (rlimit) for POSIX CPU timers. If exploited or unpatched, it could potentially lead to incorrect enforcement of CPU timer limits, which might affect system resource management and stability.

Compliance Impact

There is no information available regarding the impact of this vulnerability on compliance with common standards and regulations such as GDPR or HIPAA.
