EmberZNet Out-of-Bounds Write in IAS Zone Enrollment

Publication date: 2026-06-25

Last updated on: 2026-06-25

Assigner: Silicon Graphics (SGI)

Description
In EmberZNet v9.0.2 and earlier, malformed IAS Zone enrollment messages can trigger an out-of-bounds state-table write and terminate the process. The size and location of this write is limited. These messages must come from a device that has already joined the network. Only devices supporting the IAS Zone cluster may be impacted.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in EmberZNet version 9.0.2 and earlier. It occurs when malformed IAS Zone enrollment messages are sent, which can cause an out-of-bounds write in the state table and lead to the termination of the process.

The out-of-bounds write is limited in size and location, and the malformed messages must come from a device that has already joined the network. Only devices that support the IAS Zone cluster are potentially affected.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can cause the affected process to terminate unexpectedly due to an out-of-bounds write triggered by malformed IAS Zone enrollment messages.

Since the process termination is caused by a state-table corruption, it may lead to denial of service or instability in devices supporting the IAS Zone cluster within the network.
