Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Dreamweaver Desktop versions 21.7 and earlier. It is an Access of Uninitialized Pointer vulnerability, which means the software may use a pointer that has not been properly initialized. This can lead to arbitrary code execution within the context of the current user if exploited.

Exploitation requires user interaction, specifically that a victim must open a malicious file to trigger the vulnerability.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability can allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user. This could lead to unauthorized actions such as installing programs, viewing, changing, or deleting data, or creating new accounts with full user rights.

Because exploitation requires user interaction (opening a malicious file), the risk depends on the user's actions and security awareness.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, avoid opening malicious files in Dreamweaver Desktop versions 21.7 and earlier, as exploitation requires user interaction by opening a malicious file.

Consider updating to a version later than 21.7 once a patch is available from Adobe to address this Access of Uninitialized Pointer vulnerability.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability in Dreamweaver Desktop versions 21.7 and earlier allows arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user after opening a malicious file. This could potentially lead to unauthorized access or manipulation of sensitive data.

Such unauthorized access or data compromise may impact compliance with data protection standards and regulations like GDPR and HIPAA, which require safeguarding personal and sensitive information against unauthorized access and breaches.

However, exploitation requires user interaction, which may limit the risk but does not eliminate the compliance concerns if an attack is successful.
