Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an out-of-bounds write issue found in Adobe InDesign Desktop versions 21.3, 20.5.3, and earlier. It allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user. However, exploitation requires the victim to open a specially crafted malicious file.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run arbitrary code on your system with your user privileges. This could lead to unauthorized actions such as installing malware, stealing data, or modifying files. Since the attack requires user interaction, the risk depends on whether a user opens a malicious file.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, ensure that users do not open malicious files in affected versions of Adobe InDesign Desktop (versions 21.3, 20.5.3 and earlier). Since exploitation requires user interaction, educating users to avoid opening suspicious files can reduce risk.

Additionally, update Adobe InDesign Desktop to a version later than 21.3 or 20.5.3 once a patch is available to address the out-of-bounds write vulnerability.
