Password Policy Bypass Leading to Super Admin Lockout in Capgo

Publication date: 2026-06-19

Last updated on: 2026-06-19

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description
Capgo before 12.128.2 contains a flaw in the Enforce Password Policy feature: after a Super Admin enables the policy and successfully changes their password to a compliant one, the backend does not update the password-compliance state. As a result, the backend continues to treat the account as non-compliant and repeatedly forces password-reset prompts, permanently locking the Super Admin out of organization access (organization lockout / denial of service) despite valid authentication.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability exists in Capgo versions before 12.128.2 within the Enforce Password Policy feature. When a Super Admin enables the password policy and changes their password to one that complies with the policy, the backend system fails to update the password-compliance status. Consequently, the backend continues to treat the Super Admin account as non-compliant.

Because of this, the system repeatedly forces the Super Admin to reset their password, even though the password is valid and compliant. This results in the Super Admin being permanently locked out of organization access, effectively causing an organization lockout or denial of service despite successful authentication.

Impact Analysis

The primary impact of this vulnerability is that a Super Admin can become permanently locked out of the organization's system due to repeated forced password resets. This lockout occurs despite the Super Admin having a valid, compliant password and successful authentication.

Such a lockout can lead to denial of service for critical administrative functions, potentially disrupting organizational operations and management.
