Executive Summary

The vulnerability exists in the Jenkins External Workspace Manager Plugin version 1.3.2 and earlier. It does not properly reject path traversal sequences in the custom workspace path provided to the exwsAllocate Pipeline step.

This flaw allows attackers who have Item/Configure permission to read arbitrary files on the Jenkins controller file system.

Exploiting this vulnerability can potentially lead to remote code execution on the Jenkins controller.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability can allow an attacker with certain permissions to read any file on the Jenkins controller's file system.

This unauthorized file access can expose sensitive information and credentials.

Furthermore, the vulnerability can lead to remote code execution, allowing attackers to run arbitrary code on the Jenkins controller, potentially compromising the entire system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows attackers with certain permissions to read arbitrary files on the Jenkins controller file system and potentially execute remote code. Such unauthorized access to sensitive data and system control can lead to violations of data protection and security requirements mandated by standards like GDPR and HIPAA.

Specifically, the exposure of sensitive information or unauthorized system control could result in non-compliance with confidentiality, integrity, and availability principles required by these regulations.
