Executive Summary

This is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the Kali Forms WordPress plugin before version 2.4.17. It allows users with Contributor-level access or higher to duplicate any post, including private posts, into a published post they control. This exposes sensitive metadata such as secrets stored in custom fields.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could access private post metadata, including API keys or private notes, by duplicating posts they don't own. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized access to sensitive information, or further exploitation of the WordPress site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance. Exposure of private metadata may result in data breaches, triggering regulatory penalties and legal consequences.

Detection Guidance

Check the Kali Forms plugin version installed on your WordPress site. If it is below 2.4.17, the vulnerability is present. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WP-CLI or inspect the plugin files for version details.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Kali Forms plugin to version 2.4.17 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a patch is applied.
