Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper handling of DBPointer objects during BSON serialization in MongoDB's server-side JavaScript engine. This flaw can cause internal process memory contents to be included in data returned to the client, leading to unintended information disclosure in deployments using server-side JavaScript.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with access to the MongoDB server could exploit this to read sensitive memory contents, potentially exposing confidential data such as credentials, keys, or other internal information processed by the server.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data exposure, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to unintended disclosure of protected health or personal data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update MongoDB to the latest patched version to address the improper handling of DBPointer objects during BSON serialization.
