Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the GiveWP WordPress plugin before version 4.16.3 allows unauthenticated users to bypass administrator settings by manipulating request input. Specifically, it does not properly restrict payment gateways to those enabled by the administrator, enabling unauthorized donations through disabled gateways.

Detection Guidance

Check if the GiveWP plugin version is below 4.16.3. Inspect WordPress plugin files for unauthorized payment gateway modifications or unexpected donation completions through disabled gateways.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this flaw could allow attackers to process donations through payment gateways that the site administrator has intentionally disabled. This may lead to financial losses, unauthorized transactions, or misuse of payment processing systems.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially affect compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized transactions through disabled payment gateways. Unrestricted payment processing may lead to improper handling of financial or personal data, violating data protection requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the GiveWP plugin to version 4.16.3 or later. Review and disable any unauthorized payment gateways in the plugin settings. Monitor donation logs for suspicious activity.
