Executive Summary

IBM Engineering AI Hub versions 1.0.0, 1.1.0, and 1.2.0 are vulnerable to a flaw where improper input neutralization during web page generation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script code. This is due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied input, enabling injection attacks.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect IBM Engineering AI Hub instances for improper input neutralization in web page generation. Check for unusual script execution or unexpected user input handling. Review server logs for signs of OS command injection attempts or script code execution.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to run malicious scripts in the context of the affected application, potentially stealing session cookies, redirecting users to phishing sites, or performing actions on behalf of users. The impact is limited to confidentiality and integrity but requires no user interaction.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance penalties if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from IBM for Engineering AI Hub versions 1.0.0, 1.1.0, and 1.2.0. Implement input validation and sanitization for all user-provided data. Restrict network access to the application where possible and monitor for suspicious activity.
