Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves the IBM TS4500 CLI tool versions 0.1.31 through 1.12.0.0 failing to properly validate TLS certificates. This allows attackers to intercept communications via Man-in-the-Middle attacks, potentially exposing sensitive data.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of the IBM TS4500 CLI tool installed on your system. If it is between 0.1.31 and 1.12.0.0, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'ts4500-cli --version' or inspect installed packages to verify the version.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to intercept sensitive information transmitted between the CLI tool and the server. This may lead to unauthorized access to confidential data, including credentials or other sensitive communications.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA due to unauthorized exposure of personal or health-related data. Proper TLS validation is often required to meet these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade the IBM TS4500 CLI tool to version 1.12.0.2 or later. This version enforces proper SSL certificate validation, mitigating the vulnerability. No workarounds are available, so upgrading is the only solution.
