CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This is a use-after-free vulnerability in the GPU component of Google Chrome on Android. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to crashes or arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability exists in versions prior to 150.0.7871.182 and could allow a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process to escape the sandbox via a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome on Android and requires detecting outdated versions. Check Chrome version via Settings > About Chrome or run 'dumpsys package com.android.chrome | grep version' in ADB. If version is below 150.0.7871.182, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your device or escape the browser sandbox, potentially gaining access to sensitive data or system resources. This could lead to data theft, installation of malware, or further compromise of your device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data due to sandbox escape, which may violate data protection requirements under GDPR and HIPAA if exploited. The high-severity nature of the issue (CVSS 9.6) suggests significant risk to confidentiality and integrity of user data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome on Android to version 150.0.7871.182 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in GPU.
