Description

The Event Booking Manager for WooCommerce – Sell Tickets, Event Registration, RSVP & Event Calendar plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass in all versions up to, and including, 5.3.7. This is due to the plugin not properly verifying that a user is authorized to perform an action. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to modify site-wide payment settings β€” including WooCommerce payment enablement, cart redirect behavior, login requirements for checkout, confirmation page ID, and confirmed ticket statuses β€” that govern how all event bookings are processed.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authorization bypass in the Event Booking Manager for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. It affects versions up to and including 5.3.7. The issue allows authenticated users with contributor-level access or higher to modify site-wide payment settings without proper verification. This includes changing payment enablement, cart redirect behavior, login requirements for checkout, confirmation page ID, and ticket statuses.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to modify payment settings. To detect it, check WordPress user roles for unauthorized contributors or admins with unusual activity. Review WooCommerce payment settings for unexpected changes and inspect plugin logs for suspicious modifications.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to alter payment settings, potentially disabling payments or changing checkout behaviors. This could disrupt event bookings, lead to unauthorized transactions, or cause confusion for users trying to register for events. The impact depends on how the plugin is configured on your site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthorized modification of payment settings and ticket statuses, which could lead to improper handling of personal or financial data. This may violate GDPR if personal data is exposed or processed incorrectly, and HIPAA if health-related event data is compromised. Unauthorized changes to payment settings could also result in unauthorized transactions, further impacting compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Event Booking Manager for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version beyond 5.3.7 to patch the authorization bypass vulnerability. If an update is not available, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a fix is released.
