Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves insufficient validation of untrusted input in Chromecast within Google Chrome before version 151.0.7922.72. A remote attacker who compromised the renderer process could exploit this to potentially escape the sandbox via a specially crafted HTML page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome version 151.0.7922.72 or earlier. To detect it, check your Chrome version via chrome://version/ in the browser. If it is 151.0.7922.72 or older, update immediately. No direct network detection commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to escape the sandboxed environment of the renderer process. This might enable them to execute arbitrary code on your system with the privileges of the Chrome process, potentially leading to unauthorized access or control of your device.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA as it involves a sandbox escape in Chromecast via a compromised renderer process. Compliance impacts would depend on how the vulnerability is exploited in a specific environment.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 151.0.7922.72 or later to address the vulnerability. Disable Chromecast if not in use and restrict access to untrusted HTML content.
