CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This is a use after free vulnerability in V8, the JavaScript engine used by Google Chrome. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to out of bounds memory access. An attacker who compromised the renderer process could exploit this by crafting a malicious HTML page to trigger the issue.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code or perform out of bounds memory access on your system if you visit a specially crafted webpage. This might lead to data theft, system compromise, or other malicious activities depending on the attacker's goals.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free issue in Google Chrome's V8 engine, which could allow a remote attacker to perform out-of-bounds memory access. While the direct impact on compliance standards like GDPR or HIPAA is not specified, such vulnerabilities may lead to unauthorized data access or processing, potentially violating data protection requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 151.0.7922.72 or later to address the use after free vulnerability in V8.
