Description

The Event Organiser plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting in all versions up to, and including, 3.12.9. This is due to the 'eo_events' shortcode accepting attacker-controlled 'no_events' content and rendering it in event list templates without output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.

Executive Summary

The Event Organiser plugin for WordPress has a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in all versions up to and including 3.12.9.

This vulnerability arises because the 'eo_events' shortcode accepts attacker-controlled 'no_events' content and renders it in event list templates without properly escaping the output.

As a result, authenticated attackers with Contributor-level access or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages, which will execute whenever any user accesses those pages.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can allow attackers with Contributor-level access to inject malicious scripts into your website pages.

These scripts will execute in the browsers of users who visit the affected pages, potentially leading to theft of user data, session hijacking, or other malicious actions.

Because the vulnerability requires authenticated access, it may be harder for external attackers to exploit, but insider threats or compromised accounts pose a risk.
