Executive Summary

This is a memory corruption vulnerability where an app could potentially access and disclose kernel memory due to improper memory handling. It was fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.8.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 and involves kernel memory disclosure. Detection requires checking your macOS version and monitoring for unusual memory access patterns. Use 'sw_vers' to check your macOS version and 'sysctl vm.swappiness' to inspect memory handling settings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive kernel memory, potentially exposing passwords, encryption keys, or other confidential data stored in memory.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability involves potential disclosure of kernel memory, which could expose sensitive user data. Such data exposure risks non-compliance with GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) due to unauthorized access to personal or protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update to the latest patched versions of macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 or macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 to address the memory corruption issue.
