Executive Summary

CVE-2026-40953 is a heap overflow vulnerability in the certificate parsing function of Secure Access clients running versions before 14.55. It allows attackers with local access and administrator privileges to cause a denial of service attack against the affected client.

Detection Guidance

Since this vulnerability requires local access and administrator privileges to exploit, detection should focus on monitoring for unusual client behavior or crashes in Secure Access versions prior to 14.55. Check client logs for certificate parsing errors or heap overflow warnings. Ensure all Secure Access clients are updated to version 14.55 or later.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can cause a denial of service attack, making the Secure Access client unavailable. It requires local access and administrator privileges to exploit, so it primarily affects systems where attackers already have high-level control.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability primarily impacts availability by causing denial of service through heap overflow in certificate parsing. It does not directly affect confidentiality or integrity of data, which are key concerns for GDPR and HIPAA. However, service disruption could lead to non-compliance if systems fail to meet uptime requirements mandated by these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update all Secure Access clients to version 14.55 or later to patch the heap overflow vulnerability. Restrict local administrative access to systems running Secure Access clients to reduce exposure. Monitor client stability and performance for signs of exploitation attempts.
