CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an integer overflow caused by insufficient input validation. It allows an application to trigger an unexpected system termination by exploiting this flaw.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Apple macOS versions and involves an integer overflow issue. Detection primarily requires checking your macOS version against the patched releases. Use the command 'sw_vers' to check your current macOS version. Compare it with the fixed versions: macOS Sequoia 15.7.8, macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, or macOS Tahoe 26.6. If your version is older, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to cause an app or system to crash unexpectedly. This may lead to data loss or denial of service if critical processes are terminated.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability, an integer overflow leading to unexpected system termination, does not directly impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA as it primarily affects system stability rather than data confidentiality, integrity, or availability.

Mitigation Strategies

Update to the latest patched versions of macOS Sequoia 15.7.8, macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, or macOS Tahoe 26.6 to address the integer overflow issue.
