Executive Summary

This is a buffer overflow vulnerability in the command line interface of AOS-CX. It allows a remote low-privileged user to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges on the underlying operating system.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking AOS-CX versions and CLI commands. Review system logs for unusual command execution patterns. HPE recommends updating to patched versions and monitoring for remote low-privileged user activity.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain control of the system, install malware, steal data, or disrupt operations. Since it allows arbitrary code execution, the impact depends on the system's role and data stored.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and access controls. Non-compliance risks fines and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches or updates provided by HPE for AOS-CX to address the buffer overflow vulnerability. Ensure access controls are enforced to limit low-privileged user access to the command line interface.
