Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Java SE, GraalVM for JDK, and GraalVM Enterprise Edition affecting multiple versions. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to cause a partial denial of service by exploiting the 2D component through network access via multiple protocols. The attack does not require user interaction and targets the availability of the system.

Detection Guidance

Detection involves checking installed Java versions and applying Oracle's security patches. Use commands like 'java -version' to identify installed versions and compare against affected releases. Monitor Oracle's security advisories for updates.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability can lead to partial denial of service, meaning affected systems may experience reduced performance or availability. This could disrupt applications relying on Java, especially those running in sandboxed environments like Java Web Start or applets.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes partial denial of service in affected Java components, which may disrupt availability of systems processing sensitive data. For GDPR, this could impact data availability requirements under Article 32. For HIPAA, it may affect access to protected health information during outages. However, the provided CVE details do not specify direct compliance impacts.

Mitigation Strategies

Update affected Oracle Java SE, GraalVM for JDK, or GraalVM Enterprise Edition installations to the latest patched versions immediately. Disable Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets if not required. Restrict network access to Java services where possible.
