Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the DOM environment to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser. The victim must visit a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detecting DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities typically involves inspecting web application code for unsafe DOM manipulations. Use browser developer tools to monitor JavaScript execution and DOM changes. Tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite can help identify potential XSS vectors by analyzing client-side scripts and user inputs.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies or personal information, perform actions on your behalf, or redirect you to malicious sites. It may also lead to unauthorized access to your account or system if combined with other vulnerabilities.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face fines, legal consequences, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement input validation and output encoding for user-controlled data. Use Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and mitigate XSS risks. Review and sanitize all DOM manipulations in the application.
