Executive Summary

This is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in GFI Archiver versions before 15.13. An authenticated attacker can inject malicious scripts via the configured folders parameter in the ImportSettingsWizard.ashx file. The injected payload is stored without proper output encoding and later executed when users view the Archive Assistant default import settings.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect the ImportSettingsWizard.ashx file and check for stored XSS payloads in the configured folders parameter. Review logs for suspicious script injections in Archive Assistant default import settings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal session cookies, perform actions on behalf of users, or redirect users to malicious websites. Users viewing the Archive Assistant default import settings could have their browsers compromised by the injected script.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations may face compliance penalties if user data is compromised through this exploit.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade GFI Archiver to version 15.13 or later to patch the vulnerability. If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to the ImportSettingsWizard.ashx endpoint and monitor for unauthorized changes to import settings.
