Out-of-Bounds Read in PDF Processing Library

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-57255, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-07-08

Last updated on: 2026-07-08

Assigner: Foxit

Description

The application opens a PDF containing an abnormal color space whose attributes reference a valid but semantically malformed function. The function's output is not validated; when subsequently read, it produces an illegal pointer that accesses an out-of-bounds region, crashing the application.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability occurs when the application opens a PDF file that contains an abnormal color space. The color space's attributes reference a function that is valid in form but semantically malformed. The output of this function is not validated properly, which leads to the creation of an illegal pointer. When the application reads this pointer, it accesses memory outside the intended bounds, causing the application to crash.

Impact Analysis

The primary impact of this vulnerability is that it can cause the application to crash due to out-of-bounds memory access triggered by a malformed PDF file. This can lead to denial of service, interrupting normal operations and potentially causing loss of availability.

Mitigation Strategies

To mitigate this vulnerability, users are advised to update their Foxit PDF Reader and Editor applications to the latest versions.

  • Use the application’s built-in update feature to obtain the latest version.
  • Alternatively, download the latest versions directly from the Foxit website.
