Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Hospitality Simphony, a point-of-sale (POS) system for food and beverage applications. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to exploit the system via HTTP. Successful exploitation can lead to unauthorized data manipulation, deletion, or creation, as well as causing the system to crash repeatedly or hang completely.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability can be detected by checking for Oracle Hospitality Simphony versions 19.8-19.8.5, 19.9-19.9.3, or 19.10. Scan your network for HTTP services hosting these versions and verify if they are exposed to unauthenticated access. Use network scanning tools like Nmap to identify affected systems.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to alter or delete critical data, such as sales records or customer information. It could also disrupt operations by causing the POS system to crash frequently, leading to downtime and potential financial losses.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modification of sensitive data, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data integrity and protection) and HIPAA (patient or customer data security). Organizations using this software may face legal and regulatory penalties if data breaches occur.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for Oracle Hospitality Simphony versions 19.8-19.10. Restrict network access to HTTP ports used by the application. Monitor for unusual activity or unauthorized data changes.
