Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in the MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster products affecting specific versions. It exists in the Server: Clone Plugin component. The issue allows a high-privileged attacker with network access to potentially take over the MySQL Server or Cluster through multiple protocols.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking MySQL Server or MySQL Cluster versions against affected releases. Use commands like 'mysql --version' or 'mysqld --version' to verify installed versions. Compare against versions 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for MySQL Server and 8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for MySQL Cluster.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could lead to a complete takeover of the MySQL Server or MySQL Cluster. This means an attacker could gain full control over the database, potentially accessing, modifying, or deleting sensitive data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows high privileged attackers to compromise MySQL Server or Cluster, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system takeover. Such incidents could violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations by exposing sensitive data or disrupting critical operations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster to versions 8.4.11 or later, or 9.7.2 or later, depending on your current version. Remove high privileged access where possible and restrict network access to the Clone Plugin component.
