Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster where a high-privileged attacker with network access can cause a denial of service (DOS) by making the server hang or crash repeatedly. The attack requires high privileges and is difficult to exploit.

Detection Guidance

This CVE affects MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster versions with replication components. Detection requires checking installed versions against affected ranges (MySQL Server 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1; MySQL Cluster 8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1). Use commands like 'mysql --version' or check package managers (e.g., 'dpkg -l | grep mysql-server' on Debian/Ubuntu or 'rpm -qa | grep mysql-server' on RHEL). Monitor for crashes or hangs in MySQL processes.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could disrupt database operations by causing MySQL Server or Cluster to become unresponsive or crash frequently, leading to downtime and potential data unavailability.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by causing data unavailability, which may violate availability requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Downtime could lead to breaches of service level agreements or regulatory obligations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster to versions 8.4.11 or later for MySQL Server 8.4.x, 9.7.2 or later for MySQL Server 9.7.x, and 8.0.48 or later for MySQL Cluster 8.0.x. Apply the latest patches from Oracle to address the vulnerability.
