Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with access to the physical network segment where Oracle Coherence runs to take over the system. The vulnerability affects versions 12.2.1.4.0 and later.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0. Verify if the service is exposed on the network segment. Use network scanning tools like nmap to identify open ports and services. Check logs for unusual access patterns or connections to Coherence ports.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to fully compromise Oracle Coherence, leading to loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. This could result in unauthorized access, data breaches, or service disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Compliance failures could result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Restrict network access to the physical communication segment where Oracle Coherence operates to trusted sources only.
